Recirculating System Components
Fish farming in recirculated systems are one of the most expanding ways of producing fish and other species for the aquaculture industry.Maintaining good waterquality is of primary importance in aquaculture. In recirculating tank sytems, proper water quality is maintained by suitable processes and equipments.
Microscreen drum filters units are available that can treat flows from 50 cum/hr to 1500 cum/hr use polyester filter cloth through which effluent passes while the suspended solids are retained on the screen.
Microscreen drum filter units rapidly remove the captured solids from the process flow within the water because the solids are washed from the screen several hundreds to several thousand times daily by automatic back wash system.
Oxygen cones are commonly used to add pure oxygen within large recirculating systems. They are widely used. It is a cone-shaped cylinder that it wider at its base than at its top.Water flow and the oxygen feed gas both enter the top of the cone within a high turbulence zone that is used to increase bubble shear and mixing.
The oxygen absorption efficiencies is up to 95%, depending upon cone geometry, operating pressures, off gas ventilation rate and water flow rates.
Protein skimmers is the term most commonly used by aquarium and aquaculture professionals to describe the removal of suspended and dissolved waste from fish tanks by means of air floatation.
In this flotation process, the solids attached to air bubbles, float to the surface, become concentrated and are removed.Protein skimmers also provide an easy way to introduce ozone at low dosage rates into culture water , to increase Redox levels and the removal of water colouration (browning of water) .
UV light can be used to destroy ozone residuals(catalyzing the conversion of O3 to O2.) and denature the DNA of microorganisms causing the microorganisms to die or lose their function.
Channel type UV sterilizer is non pressurized open channel units. The UV bulbs are usually contained within quartz sleeves to allow submergence in the process flow. The quartz sleeves must be kept clean to maintain transmittance. Using UV light does not produce toxic residuals or form byproducts that pose a risk to aquatic ornanims.
